Hello
everyone and welcome to Bet.ID podcast. The podcast where I talk about
Indonesian and things related to it. So that you can improve your Indonesian
listening comprehension and get to know more about Indonesian and its cultures.
I’m Jeff your host.
Hello.
This is very first episode of this podcast. If you want to access the
transcripts for this episode just click the link in the shownotes. So yeah, it’s
a kind of introduction podcast. My name is Jeff, I am an Indonesian native
speaker, I’m also a Youtuber, unknown Youtuber indeed, and an Indonesian tutor,
also a language learner myself.
I’m so
glad speaking to you now through this podcast. So what this podcast about? What
you can expect from this podcast? I got three points here to relate to you on
what you can expect from this podcast.
First, I
want to provide an Indonesian material for foreigners out there to listening
to. So that they can improve or you can improve your listening comprehension. I
will speak with neutral Indonesian accent or we call it bahasa percakapan.
Since the spoken Indonesian accent which many foreigners think is an authentic
accent is not really an accent we use when we talk to other Indonesian. Instead
that is Jakartan accent. I admit that that accent is quite understandable to
all Indonesian but when we speak Indonesian, we don’t really speak in Jakartan
accent. For instance when you are to say ‘would you with me?’ it is , I’m sorry
for my bad Jakartan accent, lu mau pergi bareng gua gak? in neutral Indonesian
accent, which is the accent that is to be used when you speak to other
Indonesian who are not from Jakarta, it is kamu mau pergi sama aku gak? So
they are different. In this podcast I would speak in neutral Indonesian accent
so that you can get use to this accent and would be able to speak comfortably
when you are traveling in Indonesia.
Second
thing that you can expect in this podcast is I will make 2 kinds of podcast.
First is the podcast for beginner Indonesian learner where I talk in English and
this one mainly focus about the Indonesian language, you know, the grammar, the
pronunciation, et cetera. Second, the podcast for intermediate Indonesian
learner where I speak in Indonesian not English and I talk not only about the
language but also the culture of Indonesian. Because the culture plays the main
role in the language. You might think that some words or sayings in Indonesian
are weird but once you know the culture on how we do things, how it works, it
then becomes less weird, becomes understandable. I will also talk about some
random general things in spoken Indonesian accent to help you understand the way
we speak Indonesian in everyday life.
The
third point is the more you’re accustomed to sound of spoken Indonesian the
more you understand it. Once you understand the neutral Indonesian accent, you
will be able to survive when you come here or speak to Indonesian. It’s just
like children when they learn a language. They don’t study the grammar and
stuff, they just absorb the language naturally by listening to it over and over
again and then they take the further step to copy the language with repetition
and so that is how they become fluent in that language. They don’t learn the
grammar and stuff to speak the language, they just listen to it and copy it. So
hopefully it would be the same with you when you are listening to this podcast
you will get use to the spoken Indonesian and learn Indonesian naturally.
So I
think that is enough for this boring introduction episode. Are you still with
me? Thank you for bearing with me. See you in the next podcast.
