Podcast #8 - How to Tell the Time in Indonesian

 

Hello this is the episode eight of the podcast. In this podcast I’m going to talk about how to tell the time in Indonesian. But just a quick reminder if you wanna read the transcripts for this audio you can click the link down below. Okay so how to tell the time in Indonesian.

            If you have listened my podcast #6 then you’re likely to know how to tell the time in Indonesian. Okay so actually just like English there are two ways in which you can tell the time. The first way is, you know, the difficult method. Like it’s 9’o clock, it’s half past nine, it’s quarter past nine, it’s half to ten, it’s quarter to ten.

                The second way is the easy way like it’s 9:15 or it’s 9.30 and so on. Okay so let’s start with the first method. What time is it? Jam berapa sekarang? Again jam berapa sekarang? Okay so I suppose that you already know the number in Indonesian if you don’t know yet then head over to podcast #6.

The first method

Jam berapa sekarang? What time is it?

Sekarang jam …. It is ….

For example

It is 9’o clock/Sekarang jam 9 tepat

It is 10’o clock/Sekarang jam 10 tepat

Like English, it is uncommon to hear someone says it is 17’o clock because this first method is usually use in 12 hour format. In Indonesian you will never hear someone says sekarang jam 17 tepat. It sounds odd.

It is half past nine/Sekarang jam setengah 10

It is half past ten/Sekarang jam setengah 11

It is half to ten/Sekarang jam setengah 10

It is half to eleven/Sekarang jam setengah 11

Okay so in Indonesian they are the same. 

It is half past …. 

And It is half to …. 

They are 

Sekarang jam setengah …. 

            It is half past 7, it is half to 8. It’s the same in Indonesian, Sekarang jam setengah 8. Now we jump into the the second method. The easiest method. This method is commonly used with 24 hour format.

What time is it?/Jam berapa sekarang

It is 9.10/ Sekarang jam 9.10

It is 10.45/ Sekarang jam 10.45
