Hello
and welcome to Bet.ID Podcast. The podcast where I talk about Indonesian and
things related to it so that you can improve your listening comprehension and
get to know about Indonesia and its cultures. I’m Jeff.
This is
the fourteenth last episode where I speak in English in this podcast because I
think if you really wanna know how to speak Indonesian you have to put more
effort than just listening to the podcast because there are things that could
only be learnt visually. And the best way to have a strong Indonesian
foundation, so to speak, is watch the the videos on my youtube channel where I
speak full in English or if you’d really like to take your Indonesian to the
next level, the best way to do that is to book an online one on one Indonesian
lesson with me on italki or preply whatever suits you the best.
So in
this episode I’m gonna be talking to you about the simple sentence structure in
Indonesian. You know about Indonesian alphabet, Indonesian number, Indonesian
days and months, and so on. But how do I make a sentence in Indonesian? You
might ask. If so, then this episode is really made for you.
Now,
how do we make a simple sentence in English. Did you remember the formula? Yes
that is right so we have Subject, I You We He She It, and Verb and Object. If
you don’t know yet what are I You We He She It in Indonesian then I advise to
check out my youtube video about that you can find the link in the shownotes.
So for
example, ‘I eat bread’ I is aku and eat is makan and bread is roti. So how
could we say ‘I eat bread’ in Indonesian. Actually it is 100% percent same as
English. Aku makan roti. I eat bread. Again Aku makan roti.
Another
example, I drive the car, Again I is saya, drive is mengendarai, ok now that’s
a bit hard work to pronounce but just practice. Again mengendarai and the car
is mobil. So I drive the car is Aku mengendarai mobil. Again Aku mengendarai
mobil.
Now the
interesting part that I’d like to know. I eat bread is in the present tense,
right? So in the past tense you have I ate bread and in the future tense you
have I will eat bread. But Indonesian doesn’t conjugate the verb. So Aku makan
roti in the past tense would be Aku makan roti again aku makan roti. And yes
you heard it right. Aku makan roti in the past tense would be aku makan roti.
What about the future tense. Aku makan roti in the future tense would be Aku
makan roti. Again aku makan roti. Once more there is nothing wrong with your
ears you heard it right. So aku makan roti in the past tense and in the present
tense in Indonesian is aku makan roti.
It’s
really interesting, right? That is why Indonesian language is quite easy to
learn. We also don’t conjugate our verb if the subject change. For example She
eats bread in. In Indonesian you just need to change the subject She in
Indonesian is Dia makan roti. And the rest is still the same. So now are you
really interested in learning Indonesian? Then again the best way to do that is
to watch videos on my youtube channel. Because to be honest I dedicated this
channel for those who already has a ample knowledge of Indonesian language. So
basically this channel is for intermediate and advanced Indonesian learners to
help them to get used to everyday Indonesian accent.
So for
conclusion. As a beginner learner you have learnt about how to Introduce
yourself, some common greetings and useful phrases, Indonesian alphabet and
number, how to tell the time in Indonesian, Days and months in Indonesian, the
weather and the seasons in Indonesian, and finally how to make a simple
sentence in Indonesian. So actually you know already how to start conversation
in Indonesian and engange a little bit in conversation. Because all you need to
do now is learn more the Indonesian vocabulary and practice speaking in simple
sentence of course. Again this is the third time I tell you this but anyway, if
you really want to improve your Indonesian you can subscribe to my youtube
channel or book an online lesson with me. All the link is in the description
box. Thank you for listening.
