So long before what is called as
the Republic of Indonesia exists. There were many Hindu-Buddhist Kingdoms in
the area of Indonesia now. Of course, I’m not gonna go over each kingdom in
this podcast. But here are the 4 Hindu-Buddhist Kingdoms that I wanna be
talking about.
So 4 Hindu-Buddhist Kingdoms in
Indonesia as well as their relics
1. The Kingdom of Kutai
The Kutai Kingdom is the oldest
Hindu kingdom in Indonesia. It was established in the 4th century C.
E. in Kalimantan Timur. Some well-known kings of this kingdom are Kudungga, Aswawarman,
and Mulawarman. There are many relics of this kingdoms but one of them is a stone monument written in Pallawa. So Pallawa
is an alphabet system or characters of Sanksrit. This stone monument is called
Yupa.
2. The Kingdom of Tarumanegara
The Tarumanegara Kingdom was a
kingdom ruled over the western Java in the 5th to 7th century C. E. It is the
oldest Hindu Kingdom in Java island. Some of the well-know kings of this kingdom
are Wisnuwardhana, Indrawarman, and Candrawarman. One of this kingdom relics is
the Stone Monument of Kebun Kopi.
3. The Kingdom of Kalingga
The Kalingga Kingdom was a
kingdom which established in the northern coast area of Central Java in the 6th
century. So it was established at the same
time with the Kutai Kingdom and Tarumanegara Kingdom. Some well-known kings are
Wasumurti, Wasugeni, Wasudewa, Wasukawi, Kiratasingha, Kartikeyasingha, dan
Wasuwari. I couldn’t find any information about the relic of this kingdom. So
you can find it on your own on the internet.
4. The Kingdom of Mataram
The Mataram Kingdom ruled over
Central Java in the 8th century but then moved to East Java in the 10th century. It was the successor
to the Kalingga Kingdom. Some of the kings of this kingdom are Rakai Pikatan
and Rakai Panangkaran. The most popular relic of this kingdom is Candi
Borobudur. Have you been to Candi Borobudur?
Of course there are many more
kingdoms in Indonesia that I wanna share with you but I guess that’s enough for
today. So if you have any question about this episode or this podcast in
