                Indonesia is a country which has many islands. In fact, Indonesia has 17.508 islands and it makes Indonesia is in the 4th place of countries which have the most islands. Of course, I’m not gonna go over each island in Indonesia today. But here are the 5 biggest islands in Indonesia.

 

1.       Papua Island

The first biggest and widest island in Indonesia is in the eastern part of Indonesia namely Papua. So the area of Papua is 786.000 km2 and it is the biggest island in the world after Greenland.

 

2.       Kalimatan Island

Next, we have Kalimatan island or Borneo. The area of Kalimantan is 743.330 km2. With this area, it makes Kalimatan becomes the 2nd biggest island in Indonesia. An interesting fact is there are 3 countries in this island. They are Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam.

 

3.       Sumatra Island

This island is in the western part of Indonesia. It is the 3rd biggest island in Indonesia. The area of this island is 443.065 km2. It is the 6th biggest island in the world.

 

4.       Sulawesi Island

Sulawesi or Celebes in English is the 4th biggest island is Indonesia. The area of Sulawesi is 180.681 km2. This island is well-known because of the high quality Indonesian spices it has.

 

5.       Java Island

Java island is the 5th biggest island in Indonesia yet it is the most populated island in Indonesia. The area of this island is 128.297 km2. In this island is the central government of Indonesia.
